View NotesA classic from the Jed vault, this is a show that landed on a Jammin Jednesday night St. Patrick's Day at August West Amphitheater! A big crowd ready to party feeds the high energy performance. Set I opens with a nice layered jam, typical for this period back in the days when Jed still used a rhythm box for the opening improvs. The jam leads to a proper opener in "Brown Eyed Women" and the set develops perfectly from there, with "Jack Straw," "Me And My Uncle," and "Big River" building on the tone set by BEW. Two Dylan tunes, "All Along The Watchtower" and "Masterpiece," as well as a rare "West LA Fadeaway" round out a solidly constructed first set (listen for the funny "Technical Difficulties" intro on West LA). But the fun really begins in Set II of this show, which packs eighty minutes worth of classic tunes, extended jams, drums, space and more. Set II again kicks off with one of Jed's rhythm jams, which leads to yet another Bob Dylan tune, the classic "Quinn The Eskimo." The set wanders through the timbers of Fennario with "Dire Wolf" into a sweet "Candyman" before really taking off with a sixteen minute "Darkstar" followed by another fifteen minutes of intense drums and space (this was also back in the day when Jed played the full drum kit, and this show features a fine example of that). The whole affair comes back to earth with an appropriate "High Time," but the set still has one last punch left in it, in the form of a twelve minute "Playing In The Band" closer. A "Peggy-O" encore wraps up a fantastically fun show at Darkstar with some great musical moments. Enjoy! :)
