View NotesI patched in 1:25-6:57 of drums from the incredible FOB located on archive.org (shnid 8573). It's an excellent recording (as is this) and I heartily recommend downloading it. All SHNs were converted to FLAC, SBEs were cleaned up using shntool. Many thanks to Charlie Miller for the SBD seed and to Ladner for the AUD patch source. Taper Notes:
View NotesThere are many sweet recordings of this show. The C. Miller SBD is great and I've heard another audience made w/ AKG's on an M-3 DAT that's incredible. Many tapers were setting up in front of one stack or the other. I usually went for dead center if I could get near or at the front of the tapers section when it's on a large lawn like at Sandstone. I taped Alpine one day in front of the right stack because I got stuck in a traffic jam getting in and couldn't get anything decent in the center. This day was probably the hottest (heat index was like 116 and humid) that I remember at a Dead show. I recall Jerry wearing shorts. I had two front row tickets that I gave to friends so I could tape. They wouldn't let anyone in with gear if they didn't have a lawn ticket. So although this audience might not be the best, it's not bad and it's definitely in stereo.

View NotesJune 2015 recollection: Sandstone Amphitheater is a fairly unique place, an open air shed-like venue but with no roof over the audience. It was a blisteringly hot and sunny 4th of July, with no shade at all. During the show we saw two or three people being led or carried out from sun/heat problems. It was brutal. If my mind serves me correctly, the stage was facing west, so during the first set all of the band members were bathed in that incredibly hot Kansas afternoon sun. I thought at the time that this show was sluggish and a bit disjointed, largely because of the heat and it's effect on the instruments, and possibly aggravated by the copious amounts of sweat that was undoubtedly oozing from the players onto their instruments. I recall Jerry wiping off the neck of his guitar several times. Of course I was roasting hot as well, so I am sure my mindset was torched by the heat in some way or another. I recall wearing a cold wet towel on my head for most of the show in a vain attempt to cool down. It did not work. We all hope that you enjoy listening to this music in air-conditioned comfort. Or Perhaps you should wait until a really hot and sunny day, and set your speakers outside to best replicate the conditions we suffered to bring you this show. Enjoy!
