View NotesOldNeumanntapr Notes; This was the second show in the 1990 NYE run and I had just purchased my Nakamichi CM 300s, second hand from my friend John Lech. I decided to experiment with running a different microphone configuration for each set on this particular night, to see which I liked best, and at the last minute I decided to partake in some party favors. My 12/28/90 second set master got messed up because of the inclusion of too much mushroom ingestion. I always thought that it was during the middle of 'St. Of Circumstance’, but in fact it was near the beginning of 'China Cat Sunflower'. The mushrooms were coming on strong toward the end of the set break, and when the second set started, it APPEARED my tape was running way too slow, or running backwards, or something to that effect. The tape spools were doing weird things! In fact, it was my BRAIN that was running too fast! Instead of just sitting back and leaving well enough alone, I stopped the deck and opened up the cassette well for examination. Consequently, My master is missing about two minutes out of the start of the second set. (I had reconfigured the mics at the set break and was only running the two CM-300 CP-4 Shotguns for the second set, and switched decks from the D6 to the 153, as I was trying to experiment with seeing how different mic set ups sounded.) That was the last time I mixed party favors with taping, especially after my other taper friends had a good laugh at my expense! Well, Dave always has a good laugh at my expense and he's Not a taper, just a smart ass. I never shared my second set recording because of the flaw in 'China', but I was able to patch it with a FOB recording that was up on the LMA. (A big Thanks to those tapers.) My second set recording starts with Garcia's vocal 'Diamond Eye Jack' in 'China Cat Sunflower'. You can hear the change between the two recordings because the patch source was a FOB and mine was from the tapers section. The patch was almost two minutes, not counting the tuning to open the second set. My first set has been shared before and uploaded from CDs made with my HHb CDR 800 PRO, but I decided to do a complete new transfer from the master cassettes this time.
