Matrix by Hunter Seamons using Final Cut Pro (SHN & FLAC>AIFF>Final Cut>WAV>FLAC) August 15, 2008 Notes: 1) One momentary cut in the AUD during Drums into Space. One brief cut in the SBD during Space. 2) Fades were used to create a "seamless" AUD track. 3) There are several atomic Phil bombs during Terrapin and Other One. 4) Jerry Garcia on "matrix" recording in 1981 regarding the Dead Set and Reckoning albums: "It's a remarkable process that gives [the recording] a three-dimensionality that is uncanny - it really does...It's actually superimposed, the best of both worlds: the close mic sound of being right on stage, you know, and the thing of being in the room and the way the room, what the room does - those things superimposed on each other, you know, in various relationships. It's pretty much like being there."

Taper Notes:
View NotesThe transferred cassettes were marked "5th gen sbd", and judging from the sound, this appears to be correct. The show is complete and the sound quality is good considering the apparent number of generations in the source. A slightly degraded sbd source provides certain parts of the show: all of the "tuning" track before Stranger, and from 01:04 of Drums thru 05:40 of The Other One. There's a brief cut in drums at the source-change point, and a small cut in space that was presumably for a tape flip. Soundforge was used to make fades, small edits, and smooth out the areas around the tape flips. Thanks go to Jeff Harrison for the source cassettes, and to Jake Feinberg for his tireless efforts to track down new sources for etreers everywhere. ENJOY AND SMILE!
