Taper Notes:
View NotesThis is a partial upgrade to shnid 28614 (Charlie Miller's 2005 remaster) with three tracks repaired by Duane Day. 3 Tracks upgraded and SBE's checked/fixed by Duane Day [email protected] 10/4/2013 Track upgrade details: d2t05 (Franklin's Tower): A number of low-frequency pops (mentioned in Charlie's notes) and one quick burst of static/noise have been reduced in volume using "pencil tool" in Peak DV4(G4+). Relatively few bytes were modified. Modified file is exactly the same length as original, so no SBEs. d3t02 (St. Stephen) and d3t07 (Sugar Magnolia): Patches redone using the same AUD source (shnid 26450) but matching the AUD patch's pitch, volume and EQ more closely to the SBD. No EQ or other processing was applied to the SBD. These patches were performed in ProTools LE 6.2.3 in 24-bit/44.1kHz mode, then bounced (mixed) back to 16-bit. Original patches ran a little fast, so the two new files are slightly longer than the original files. TLH was used to fix the resulting SBEs on tracks d3t02 through d3t09. d3t02 patch fades in from 4:47.3 to 4:49.5 and fades out from 4:55.7 to 4:57.1. d3t07 patch fades in from 0:39.3 to 0:44.4 and fades out from 1:17.8 to 1:29.5. (Start point of the patch was moved back to replace degraded portion of SBD from 0:39 to 0:53)

View NotesFiller Aiko To Lay me Down (from 3/27/88 PCM FOB using Schoeps CMC34's) JR Fishmans notes: Last fall I noticed a copy going around on etree that was inferior to the copy that Dougal generously gave me. The etree copy had a thin, compressed FM sound to it. I had a DAT of 6/9/77 for several years from a close friend and transferred this to CD. This copy, though not pristine, is a substantial upgrade. It is from a 1st gen reel, was transferred to PCM and then to DAT. I transferred the DAT to CD using an Fostex D10 professional DAT recorder to an hhb 800 professional stand-alone player. I did not do any editting (i.e. Cool Edit) This copy has warmer and fuller 1977-esque sound than the etree version . The quiter songs sound lovely !!!! Buyer beware - there are some nicks and bruises on this recording - - digital noise during Weir's "Just exactly right" schtick (pre Miss 1/2 step - some reel degradation during Mississippi (but still listenable) - minor digital noise @ the end of Deal - some reel degradation in Jack Straw (I only heard a second or two) - Overmodulation and distortion for the 1st 5 seconds of Estimated
