SBD (Matrix) > DAT > CDR > WAV > SHN - Seamless fix of <a href="http://db.etree.org/shn/6936">shn id 6936</a>
Taper Notes:
View Notes---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The following fix was made to this source: the transition between disks 2 and 3 was made seamless. Fades at the end of disk 2 and the beginning of disk 3 were reverse faded, identical splice points identified and splice point volume matched using the statistics tool, all in Cool Edit 2000. Shntool was used to correct resulting sector boundary errors. Bill Tetzeli, [email protected] 2/16/2006 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

View NotesOldNeumanntapr Notes: This was the last time that I have been to Cal Expo to see the Dead, or any other band for that matter. I patched my Sony WM-D6C out of my friend John Lech's Aiwa DAT and ended up buying his Nakamichi CM 300 microphones later in 1990 when he sold them to buy smaller stealth mics. Cal Expo was a nice smaller outdoor amphitheater and the first time I saw the Dead there was in May of 1986, the weekend that the Chernobyl radiation cloud passed over northern California. (Funny the things that you remember.) the 1986 Cal Expo shows were my very first attempt at recording the Dead and those tapes were a dismal failure, between the rain, the acid, and the mismatched hand-help microphones and boom box that I was trying to record with. Harkening back to a Monty Python quote from 'The Holy Grail',..."I Got Better!"

<b>flac16/48kHz</b>; Recorded by Sean Weber-Small with Schoeps CMC42s (FOB omnis spaced 8' with 5' 11" mic stands) -> Oade Power Supply -> Panasonic SV-250. Transfer from a DAT clone of Sean's Master by FOBAUD: Playback on Tascam DA20 -> Roland SRC-2 -> Mac Mini -> Audacity 2.1 -> WAV @48kHz
Taper Notes:
View Notescomments: FOBAUD provided the files to me (droncit); I just cut them into tracks using DC10 forensics (beta). There were a couple of instances of very loud sounds for fractions of a second. I decreased the gain on those so that they didn't determine the overall loudness, then renormalized Set I to -.5dB. Set II didn't have any spots like that, and was close enough to -.5dB that renormalization wasn't needed. No other processing done.

A few other glitches - most notable of which is slightly munched tape near beginning of d2t01. But for a well-listened-to ten year old cassette, it sounds mighty good. Enjoy the music!
