View NotesMatrix by dusborne 05-09-2016 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tagging notes: Show information is embedded within the header of each flac file. It will display on any player capable of directly playing flac files. If converted to wav during processing, all tags will be stripped, however audio data will remain unaffected. If you must transcode to a lossy format, do so directly Flac > Lossy. Use ffp to validate audio integrity. Md5 values will change if tagging is altered. Dave Usborne 05-09-2016

View NotesComments: Can't say much about the source tracks other than that they were analog>PCMWAVs very close to the master reels. I did not rip the tracks, they were sent to me raw by a friend who ripped them very nicely with some decent high-end equipment. That is all the information I have on that - I'm sorry I can't be more specific, but I just don't know. These were really nice source files with only a couple minor problems-there was a little bit of hiss, prolly due to the age of the tapes involved, the levels in some areas were rather low, and there were some unfortunate tape breaks. There is some reel or other anomalous noise at the beginning of Scarlet Begonias that was present on my source file. Originally, I planned to work on reducing this noise, but it is really too minor to mess with, so I did not. The tape hiss cleaned up quite nicely with a judicious application of SoundForge DX noise reduction at about an 8db pass. There was a real mean cut in Fire on The Mtn. which I did a little work on just to make the track less jarring to the listener. The track was cut at about 5:00 into the track, right in the middle of the jam between 1st & 2nd verse and did not pick up again until Jerry started the 2nd verse. I spliced & smoothed in a similar passage from another performance in the same era to reconstruct the transition. It is noticeable, but passable; I have included the original, unreconstructed track as filler on CD3 which you could interchange with my editted track if you choose to do so - the tracks mark out at the same times. Also I did a little work on a cut in the Playin'>Drums transition, a small dropout in Terrapin, and a couple of long audience breaks were cut down. I hope you enjoy the discs as much as I have!! mastered/posted by The BongRipper to alt.binaries.gdead.highspeed 2/2000
