View NotesTagging notes: Show information is embedded within the header of each flac file. It will display on any player capable of directly playing flac files. If converted to wav during processing, all tags will be stripped, however audio data will remain unaffected. If you must transcode to a lossy format, do so directly Flac > Lossy. Use ffp to validate audio integrity. Md5 values will change if tagging is altered. Dave Usborne 04-14-2016

View NotesDespite some minor flaws, this is the best representation of what went down at Winterland in October of 1978 (short of an official Vault release which we can only hope for). All five shows come from soundboard sources of varying degrees of quality. Some sets are spliced together from various sources, with an audience patch at the end of 10/21/78 Stella Blue. There are some cuts due to cassette flips. Special thanks to dug for the sources.

MOTB Release: 0021 24/96
Taper Notes:
View NotesThis is a remaster of shn #100700. There are small patch's in FT and NFA from the soundboard not mentioned in the original notes. I have smoothed them out and disguised them a bit more here. Thanks to the taper and the MOTB people and all who bring this stuff to share. All of the work I do is in ocenaudio and Harrison Mixbus. Everything I do is basically about levels. Keeping them the same in both channels throughout the frequency range. When I speak of levels I mean RMS levels. Average levels. I also tighten up phase issues when needed. Clear up any gaps that may be found. If original files are high res, I have done most of the work at the higher sample frequency and bit depths. Then towards the end I've converted to 44.1 16 bit. About the screen grabs: One can not see everything I do in these images but it shows something about how the audio has changed between before and after. If I'm working from high res files the before FFT and Spectral images look quite a bit different inherently. But you can still see how they differ otherwise. acetboy 2023-10-20

Lineage:

Taper Notes:
View NotesThe tape was flipped during Franklins Tower (disc 2 track 2 at 6:51). The tape was again flipped in the Space > Not Fade Away transition (disc 3 track 4 at 0:12). These breaks were spliced together with NERO wave editor. NERO was also used to make volume adjustments and to surgically remove distracting ôclapsö one at a time. As a note, the Sony ecm-280 cardiod microphone specification page describes the frequency response as 30 to 18KHz. No Eq or Noise reduction used. There is a slight fluttering noise in the master cassettes during the quieter sections. Thanks to John Musgrave for the use of his recording equipment. Mike Martin July 2009
