Players: Charles Atkins - keyboards and vocals The Blues Boys Larry Laseur - harmonica, backup vocals Harty Wiedemann - guitar, vocals $ Tom Henning - guitar Bernie Powers - bass, vocals + Stretch Evans - drums Notes: We called this place Club Fed as it was a minimum security federal prison at Eglin AFB, about 20 miles from the main base. It had a reputation as a place for white collar felons to do their time, while taking it easy down south in the Florida sun. There is no longer a federal prison on base. See 1991-12-07 for more background on these gigs. This was an afternoon performance with a stage set up outside. There may have been bleachers but either way, it was sparse, not well attended. The good part was that everyone was running thru the soundboard so the mix is much better than most other tapes from this period. Not sure if this is Chuck White or Stretch Evans on drums (ed. sounds like Stretch now that I hear it on CD, strong drummer, good dynamics). Charles is still playing the Casio. Tracks 15 - 19 are originals from the tape release "Animal Called the Blues". These songs were in heavy rotation at the time, usually performed as a mini-set like this. Reputation was Bernie's song, but after he left the band, Charles made it his. Wish I had gotten Bernie's vocals up in the mix some more. As always, even tho this is the middle of the day in the middle of a field, it's high energy from Charles all the way. September 2007 - camping at Torreya State Park, and digitizing a mess of live gig tapes. I think one of my kids did the "Claymation Charles", detailed right down to the Blues Bear t-shirt, pictures from 1992 - SCopeland
