View NotesPlayers: Charles Atkins - keyboards and vocals The Blues Boys Larry Laseur - harmonica Harty Wiedemann - guitar Tom Henning - guitar Bernie Powers - bass, + vocals Stretch Evans ? - drums Notes: "Alright all you Mothers" - obviously Charles is on fire from the start on this Mother's Day 1992; unfortunately the tape recording on this gig is not so good. This one-off mix suffers a few problems with vocals fluttering in and out, a too-hot harmonica ringing most the night and guitars almost non-existent. I forget the location of this gig but it was not one of the usual clubs. Seems like a banquet hall - lousy acoustics, screw the band anyway, but that could have been any of the other difficult places Charles and the Boys played. All that aside, Charles starts out in high gear with Green Grass - work work work them Mothers. It's a hoot! Also you can hear me adjusting the mix, starting out fairly low and flat (probably not time for a proper setup and practice) and about halfway thru getting the mix up. Wish the recording was better because the show was great. Best songs are the last 6 tracks, the band originals, especially the last 2. Charles shouts out "Willy" on the start of Messed Around, and Larry follows up with "Willy is my favorite number 1 Bird man." Well that's my son William who I called Bird. He's now in Iraq - he's messed around ya know, but he makes it anyway. 11-17-07 Go Bird! - SCopeland --
