View NotesTech Notes: This is the first show I have ever recorded. The quality reflects this fact. I was in the tapers section this night and had to have looked like quite the fool. First off I had an at-822 mic, which is a stereo microphone. Pushy salesman that really had no idea what my application was going to be. I might as well of gotten a mic from Radio Shack for $1.00 and I would have the same quality, basically. Second mistake, only having the D8 handle the mic preamp duties (also plugged into the line in not the mic in), and what is a wind screen, never heard of that. So the gear is sub standard and my idea of taping is quite off. I lined up way off center, and the whole night I'm messing with the height of the mic stand, not knowing that everytime you move the mic a horrible sound results. Here I am with the most prolific and professional tapers, The Grateful Dead Tapers Section, with bad equipment and moving the mic constantly. What a fool I must of looked like. For audiophiles this recording is impossible to listen to, but I still archived it because, well, it's my first recording, and that deserves it's spot in the archive for that reason alone. Normalized +15.63dB; resampled from 48kHz to 44.1 kHz. The rain began with "Jack-A-Roe" and with that begins the up and down of the mic stand, causing major booming sounds. It continues through "Minglewood". "Down The Road Again" is cut. Bird Song has stand movement throughout, and it is cut at the end because of excessive movement of the mic stand. Playin' thru Fire and Drumz thru Playin' are decent, the rest is horrible. Show Notes: Besides the fact that I really had no business in the tapers section that night, It was nice to see the old crowd again. The scene was still about the same in 1998 as it had been in 1995, granted scaled down. I actually was able to talk to people I haven't scene since 1995 or before. However that's were the simularities end. Inside a guy I was standing next to at one point had a girlfriend with him, and he actually said to her, "This is just like a Dead Show". Naturally I didn't say anything to him, but he was way off the mark. Sorry boys, but the local dead cover band does better covers, than this incarnation did all tour. Still, music aside, getting all back together with fellow deadheads was a real treat.

Taper Notes:
View NotesThis recording is a mess... Jack-A-Roe, New Minglewood Blues, Down the Road, the beginning of White Wheeled Limosine, the middle of Banyon Tree, some of Playing in the Band and all of Ripple are missing. There is lots of overload distortion on this recording. Especially during Samson & Delilah, where the taper boosted the gain resulting in heavy clipping briefly. FWIW, I didn't plan to seed this recording because of all the problems. But, there are no other audience sources in the archive. Released: 09-27-2011
