Taper Notes:
View NotesTotal Time: 3:07:28 Recorded by Scott Bernstein, patched out of Boris Lvovsky, transferred (5/31/2012), tracked (1/17-21/2020), mastered (5/10-22/2020), and posted (5/22/2020) by Scott Bernstein I had to flip to a 2nd DAT tape (as each tape could fit 3 hours and 7 minutes on it) as this show got close to hitting 3 hours JUST after 2nd set ended, so you'll hear an abrupt cut with a quick fade-out just after "Right and Wrong" ends while I popped in a new one. I did a TON of manual clap, yell, whistle, and even LOUD PA feedback scrubbing from this recording -- around 350 individual claps, whistles, yells, etc. for all of our enjoyment Taper notes: Ever since I got to see Percy Hill on Dec 27th of 2019, I've been itching to get out some more classic Percy Hill from my deep archives. I have released a few Percy shows in my BARN series in the past -- working (on the whole) chronologically through all of the times I've seen them - with BARN29 & BARN31 covering a set at The Lion's Den and an opening set at Wetlands in the spring/summer of 96, BARN86 (breaking my general chronological plan) which was part of a multiband Wetlands showcase I was feautring they were part of in June 99 (when Butch Trucks and Oteil Burbridge), and then BARN121 which was another 96 Lion's Den show from July 13th. But has it really been 85 BARN series entries and 8 years since I posted a classic Percy show?! That is WAY WAY WAY too long. So let me correct that travesty with BARN217, another show that features Percy Hill's V1.0 lineup. At that point, the band had already had built up quite a following and had clearly outgrown the tight confines of the 300-person Lion's Den in NYC, and this show represents their leap to becoming a headlining act at Wetlands. This was Percy Hill's first Wetlands headlining (2 set) show and you can hear how excited they were to make the leap from opener to headliner -- the performance captured in this recording is of a band exploding onto the stage and giving their all -- playing long and deep versions of most of their repertoire of songs, throwing in a few cool covers of Steely Dan and Jane's Addiction in a show where the music went longer than 3 hours. Anyway, glad to finally get more of this awesome band into circulation. And this is a NICE matrix mix that I made at the venue. Probably could have mixed in more of the soundboard feed vs. the microphones, but it was difficult to do a mix like this live on the spot with headphones on in an incredibly loud venue. I hope you appreciate the many hours that I spent cleaning this up - scrubbing out a ton of loud claps (especially audible during the drum solo), whistles, BAD PA feedback, yells, etc. Enjoy!
