I hand scrubbed about 30 claps,whistles,yells, and one massive burst of bass feedback in set 2 from this recording for all of our enjoyment. Recorded, transferred (7/1/2012), tracked (10/11/2019), mastered (4/13/2020), and posted (4/14/2020) by Scott Bernstein Taper notes: For BARN213, I present to you a show that I've been talking about getting posted and out to the public for many many years. This show was part of a Soulive-related run at the tiny Izzy Bar. This place held maybe 100 people (max) -- and I think it was only about half full on this night. Around this time, the Soulive guys would do drop-ins at the Izzy Bar in various configurations and with various friends -- it was (if I recall) a late midnight start each time, and you never knew exactly who would be there. Sometimes it was the full Soulive trio...other times it was various members of the band with friends. On this particular night, the core lineup was Eric Krasno along with close friend Oteil Burbridge (he'd played with Soulive a few times before -- and he fits like a glove since the band doesn't have a bassist), and by this point in time he'd had some familiarity with their material, and they'd had some familiarity with his. Also in this night's band -- Eric's bandmade from Lettuce -- the incredible Adam Deitch, and friend from the prog rock jamband Schleigho Jesse Gibbon. Ok, not a bad way to start. I guess they invited their friends to come down, as we got sit ins from their friends Topaz (on sax), Sam Lipman (also on sax), Fir Luca (not sure of spelling, on guitar), and John Ginty (at the time, a member of Robert Randolph's Family Band). But that's not all -- on this night the music gods graced us with a drop-in at this TINY venue from none other than guitar god Derek Trucks (and Oteil's Allman Brothers bandmate) for 16 minutes and 23 seconds of jaw-dropping guitar work on a cover of War's "The World Is A Ghetto". He blew everyone's mind in that tiny room at the time -- and frankly, my mind has still never recovered from those 16+ minutes. The entire show is amazing, but if nothing else, drop what you're doing and listen to the one track with the Derek sit-in. Typically, I prefer to run my mics in a standard configuration in the middle of the audience so as to get a good mix of what the room sounds like. In this case, the room was so small and the room so shallow, I ran my mics in a split configuration at the front left and right corners of the stage -- so you're just getting the stage sound. Also, the room did not have much of a PA. This is exactly what you hope for when you go out to a jam session night in a small club in NYC. Killer music, incredible guests, and some mind-blowing sparks that still amaze nearly 21 years later. I hope everyone enjoys!!! Enjoy!
