Original Master Recording: Neumann TLM-170 (cardoid) -> Apogee AD1000 -> Teac DAP1 (digital dub soon after the show @ 16/48, as my deck was running downstairs for Miracle Orchestra) DAT playback: Sony R-500 -> Sound Devices 722 digital input (@24/48) Mastered: Soundforge Pro 10.0c - *All file manipulation in Soundforge done at 24 bits*. Volume normalization and a bit of clap removal; some targeted "clipped peak restoration" in T21; sample rate conversion 48khz to 44.1khz using iZotope 64-Bit SRC set higher than "Highest Quality" setting w/anti-alias filter. Dithered to 16 bits using using iZotope MBIT+ with Ultra noise shaping, with high dither settings. Tracked in CDWav.
Taper Notes:
View NotesThere appears to be a cut at (5:51) in T21 at then the audio is somewhat distorted for a moment or 2 just afterwards, and I have applied "clipped peak restoration" to the parts of the wave that were "over". The Clipped Peak Restoration actually did a pretty good job of making the small blown-out portion of the song listenable again. There also were 2 very very short (under 1 second each) instances of what sounded like a loose analog cable in one channel -- (7 seconds into T24, and 8:03 into track 21) during both of these instances, I have copied the other channel over the messed up parts. * = w/Butch Trucks of the Allman Brothers Band replacing Ted Marotta on drums ** = w/Oteil Burbridge on bass and vocal harmonizing. Check out a review that Jesse Jarnow wrote about this show for a perspective on the night that this show took place: Memo From the Touring Desk: Slippery People In Special Cars (The Jambands.com Tour) Jambands.com night; also with Sector 9, Ulu, Conehead Buddah, Blindman's Sun, and the Living Daylights in the lounge. Miracle Orchestra, Moon Boot Lover, Percy Hill, Disco Biscuits, Lake Trout, Juggling Suns, and Jiggle The Handle played the next night. Oteil Burbridge and/or Butch trucks san in with most of the bands. Nice bass solo to start track 8! Track 19 is especially for all of you meat-eaters Taper notes: Unlike BARN81, I do have very good memories of this Wetlands night that produced BARN82. This was a marathon weekend Jambands.com showcase at Wetlands. Over the course of 2 nights, a TON of bands played, including Sector 9 (what STS9 was known as in those days), Blind Man's Sun, Ulu, Living Daylights, Miracle Orchestra, Moon Boot Lover, Percy Hill, Jiggle The Handle, Lake Trout, Conehead Buddah, and Disco Biscuits. Now that is a PACKED weekend of jamband music! This appears to be the only time that I taped Ominous Seapods back in the day (though I did tape them at moe.down in 2009 which was quite a different-sounding band than this one) but I know I saw them on a number of other occasions (including opening for moe. at Irving Plaza). Not sure why I didn't tape them more, especially since they were very closely associated with 2 of my favorite bands from back then -- moe. and God Street Wine. I guess I didn't give them a lot of respect -- but listening to this show, they definitely deserve it. Fun band, good well-played tunes -- very much in the same vein as the aforementioned moe. and God Street Wine -- groovin' rock and roll, good jams, a little funk, harmonies, serious tunes as well as a general sense of humor about their music. Anyway, this is a really great sounding recording (it was really hard NOT to make a great sounding recording at Wetlands) from a crazy weekend at Wetlands, and you get a jamband legend (Butch Trucks) plus a jammin' bassist sitting in. Look for more material from this weekend in the future! (Note I do not appear to have the Disco Biscuits, Blindman's Sun, Foxtrot Zulu, Conehead Buddah, Schleigho, Jiggle The Handle, Lake Trout, or Juggling Suns sets in my archive though they may exist in Bill Mulvey's archives or buried unexpectedly in my collection.)
