View NotesNotes: Jay's Plays – Bogie Nights 1: 2-25-95 Bogie's, Albany, NY Master DAT SBD TEAC DAP-20 Max announced it was "Goatee Night," but really it was THC: Triceratops, Hotdog, and Cancelled. Bob Kelly sat in on percussion for set two and occasionally morphed into his stage alter ego, the "Rutland Reject." The second and third sets are absolute powerhouses, both in terms of song selection and how tight the band was. Mid-set Blackberry, Roadside, Monopole, Torn and Frayed was followed by Max and Dana comically imitating Brian's mother, who the band finally met on a trip south a few days prior. They proceeded to hector Brian over and over again until he finally placated them by singing the word "Triceratops," proving once and for all that, "Oh my son…he might be tiny, but my son…he's a geeeeeeeeeeeeniuuuuuuuus!" John Henry's was excellent in the penultimate slot, then the Dana gave us a hilarious, impromptu "Kwik-E-Mart Jam" before closing with ¼ lb. Hotdog. "I love the Kwik-E-Mart more than I love my mom," he crooned gleefully. Then one of those magic Bogie's moments happened, if not unique in Pods history, then pretty darn close – we chanted for "A Whole Nuther Set!" and we got it. The boys gave us another 40 minutes, five full songs and (best of all) ridiculous, twisted dementia. After faking us out with the opening drum roll for Cancelled, they popped into Gilligan's Island first, then went into Cancelled. Between and after the verses, they went bonkers, simultaneously moaning like banshees while mocking bar owners who cheated them. ("The door brought 50, and you make two dolla…") Then they blew sirens and clanged bells at us while the fog machine turned the bar into the moors of Baskerville. Oh…and they closed with a gorgeous Jump for Joy. We think this was the last three set Bogie's show until 2-7-98. They had only played two sets per Bogie's show since around the release of Econobrain on 4-29-94, perhaps earlier. The show was so long that a three hour DAT wasn't enough. So, sadly, everyone's Jump for Joy has a cut, albeit (thankfully) a short one.
