Taper Notes:
View NotesTotal time: 2:31:17 Lineup: Peter Prince - vocals, guitar Neal Evans - keys, organ, bass keys Alan Evans - drums, vocals (no bass guitar in this lineup) * = full band version, not acapella (this unique version appears to have been inspired by some feedback onstage) - check out Peter’s guitar work on this - WOW + = with Dave "The Fuse" Fiuczynski on guitar The first 90 seconds of this recording is in mono as only the right channel was recorded while the matrix mix was being stabilized Wetlands' 7th birthday party. There was a very long (hour plus) costume contest celebration between sets. Recorded by Scott Bernstein and Boris Lvovsky Thanks to Boris for bringing out the Mackie 1202 and AKG-391s on this night! BARN229 presents a slightly evolved MBL lineup from around the time funky John Hawes went to play with Percy Hill and Neal Evans took over playing basslines on bass keys (and I might say that even though you can't SLAP bass keys, they are no less funky as you can hear loudly and clearly on this recording) as the band continued as a guitar/bass/drums trio (probably not coincidentally the format that Soulive adopted from their inception). Of note about this recording -- it's a BEAUTIFUL capture of a spectacular sounding matrix mix Boris [BIG thanks to Boris for bringing his gear out on this night] and I did live at the venue and is a pleasure to listen to (particularly after sweetened up the EQ a bit). This is a LONG 2 set show and the setlist features a wide array of tunes (interestingly it leaves out a good bunch of their "heavy hitters" at the time) -- including 2 that I am unable to identify....and a special guest sit in from Dave "The Fuse" Fiuczynski. Fuse (who still performs currently on occasion with Club D'Elf) was a member of Screaming Headless Torsos who opened up for MBL the previous time they'd played Wetlands on 9/22/1995 (and their singer Dean Bowman sat in on that night) -- a booker at Wetlands must have really liked them at the time becuase they were also given the prime slot opening for moe. on 12/31/95. Of note about this performance -- the dual guitars when Fuse was sitting in. The cover of Tower Of Power's "What Is Hip"...the BEAUTIFUL sensitive songs "Color The Rainbow" and "Hope You Do Too", a very different (non-acapella) kind of take on "Travelin' Shoes", and my first exposure to one of their catchiest tunes "Here Comes The Night". Also of note: There are 2 songs I was unable to identify. So anyone who can pitch in, please reach out. This concludes my brief detour into ancient Moon Boot Lover recordings. I have at least 10 more masters in my collection which I will work on in time, but this is all the MBL I'm posting for right now. Enjoy!
