Sector 9, Ulu, Conehead Buddah, Blindman's Sun, and the Living Daylights all played the previous night. Oteil Burbridge and/or Butch trucks sat in with most of the bands. Taper notes: Sticking with my string of Wetlands releases (if I stuck to putting out only Wetlands releases, I could probably keep posting stuff for years and not run dry...) for BARN85, I'm continuing to put out stuff from the Jambands.com weekend June 4-5, 1999. So many great bands were stuffed into the club over a 2 night period, it was pretty amazing. And LONG nights...and a challenge to get it all on tape. So I managed to get a good bunch of the music on DAT from the 2 night stand, and this Moon Boot Lover set is another one. What to say about Moon Boot Lover? I remember very clearly the 1st time I heard them on 7/22/95 also at Wetlands, on a bill that included moe., Yolk, Moon Boot Lover, and the short-lived band Pound. The MBL set was a major standout for me on that night, and I started going to see them whenever they returned to NYC after that. The lineup changed over the years, but Peter Prince was always the outer space cadet leading the charge, usually wearing his "moon boots" on stage, bringing us "intergalactic funk and soul". The guy is a trip to watch onstage, and his stage banter is often just as trippy. Listen to his lyrics closely (his soulful voice can be hard to decipher) and you'll be rewarded in spades. This is a pretty tasty, if short set from them, featuring a very extended sit-in from Oteil Burbridge in the song Molly, taking this song to nearly 14 minutes! For some reason it cuts in in the middle of You're So Unique. I have no clue as to why, nor do I know what's missing. But I can say that there were 6 minutes of blank space at the beginning of the DAT before it kicked in. Over the years I caught MBL a TON of times so I will eventually have lots more to contribute to their archive page. And the historic night that I first saw them in '95 I will post if the tape is ever returned to me (it has been on loan to someone for quite a while). Enjoy!
