Jed Luckless is back on stage live with his solo show after a long break! It was last October when Jed performed his last show at Odeen's and he hasn't taken the solo rig out live since then. But thankfully he was a part of the SoNo Acoutsic series at SoNo 1420 Maritime Distillery in South Norwalk, CT! It being an "acoustic" series, Jed starts out gently, with the instrumental "Outside Looking In," but then slowly starts to ramp things up with the bluesy "Moved To The Country" and "Time & Tide" with it's rocking solo section. By the fourth song, Jed is clearly ready to jam, which he does on a nice parlay of the Talking Heads "Cities" and the Beatles "Dear Prudence." It seems like he's mellowing out again next with "The 86" but if you know the song, you know it has a lofty and powerful end jam to it. Things do mellow a bit with the next two songs: "I Love You" and "Some Notes On Lying" which flow together nicely. Jed goes back to his 2010 album with the pop-ish title track "All At Once" and one off his 2016 Roll Over album "Barter Creek" before wrapping up the set on a high note with "Used To Feel Good." Second set also starts out with an instrumental, "The Hairdresser" (incidentally both instrumentals of the night are from the Outside Looking In documentary soundtrack). The fun blueser "Black Molly" is up next, followed by the somber "Listen To The Angels." Jed's focus has definitely been on originals at this show, but it's back to a couple covers mid-set with Velvet Underground's "Rock And Roll" paired with Led Zeppelin's "Going To California," and including the only other real improv jam of the night. "Far Gone Blues" slides in perfectly, followed nicely by the gentle "Own" off Jed's latest album. The always fun Cailidgh Spires tune "The Song With Words And Stuff" makes an appearance next, followed by yet another cover song, David Bowie's "Space Oddity" with an awesome jam section at the end. Jed puts the breaks on for minute with a beautiful rendition of his classic "Smile Forever," but then quickly amps it up again with the Rolling Stone's "Loving Cup" and one last nice little jam. He closes the set with the upbeat "Where The Mountains Meet The Sea," and tacks on a sing-along encore featuring John Mellencamp's "Pink Houses." This is a really fun show at a cool venue and it's great to have Jed back on the live stage outside of the Jedstead. While it's not the most jammy show, it really spotlights his original songs with a great set list that also includes some of the classic rock covers he loves to play. Definitely worth a listen! Enjoy!
