SBD + split mic matrix
Lineage:
Matrix: Neumann TLM-170s (hypercards, center on a stand, just behind the soundboard area) -> Sound Devices 722 (@24/96) + Soundboard recording (also @ 24/96); Processing in SoundForge Pro 10.0d (4 channel time sync; slight "elastique" time stretch applied to SBD which was a few hundredths of a second behind my audience recording; mixdown at 64 bit float/96 khz; resample to 44.1 with iZotope 64-Bit SRC set higher than "Highest Quality" setting w/anti-alias filter; 24->16 bit dither using iZotope MBIT+ Dither with Ultra noise shaping, High dither settings; Tracked in CDWav.
Taper Notes:
View Notes* = just Lo & Aaron on acoustic guitars + = w/multiple "Two Tickets To Paradise" (Eddie Money) jams The entirety of Track 1 is patched into my 24/96 master from Scott Brown's 24/96 master (and then processed along my processing path): DPA 4023 > Grace Design Lunatec V3 > Mytek Stereo 192 @ 24 bit, 96khz > Sound Devices 744; 744T > Apple MacBook Pro > Wave Editor 1.5.7 > xACT 2.20 (5494) > flac. Then FLAC File processing in SoundForge Pro 10.0d (volume normalization / level matching and splicing into my recording; resample to 44.1 with iZotope 64-Bit SRC set higher than "Highest Quality" setting w/anti-alias filter; 24->16 bit dither using iZotope MBIT+ Dither with Ultra noise shaping, High dither settings; Tracked in CDWav. Also note that the SBD recording is missing the first 1:30 of Frank Messina's poetry, so you will hear the SBD appear in the matrix (cleanly) then. I have matched the volume of the two parts, so it's seamless. Lineup: Lo Faber - guitar, vocals Aaron Maxwell Lieberman - guitar, vocals John "Bevo" Liebowitz - keys, organ Dan Pfier - bass, harmony vocals Tom "Tomo" Osander - drums, harmony vocals Jason Crosby - keys, organ, violin/fiddle John Wood - percussion Lizzie "Loves" Friel - background vocals Unfortunately I couldn't run my same split-mic setup on this night because I only had 1 mic stand and nobody had any they could lend me...and the venue security would not let me clamp anywhere. Audience recording by Scott Bernstein. SBD recording by Victor Cornette. Mixed, mastered, tracked, and posted by Scott Bernstein (11/13-16/2012) There is a higher quality 24 bit version of this recording available at http://archive.org/details/gsw2012-08-17.tlm170.sbd.matrix.flac24 Follow me on Twitter to track my near-daily postings of FREE live music and concert photography: http://www.twitter.com/scott_bernstein Or become a "fan" on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Scott-Bernsteins-Live-Music-Photos-Page/166706713365451
