Lineage:
Neumann TLM-170 (cardoids, center, just FOB ~30 feet from stage)->Sound Devices 722 (@24/96); FLAC File processing in SoundForge Audio Studio 10.0c (volume normalization; resample to 44.1 with iZotope 64-Bit SRC set higher than "Highest Quality" setting w/anti-alias filter; 24->16 bit dither using iZotope MBIT+ Dither with Ultra noise shaping, High dither settings, some targeted Parametric EQ [low shelf starting at 396hz] to remove minor wind noise in 4 spots); Tracked in CDWav.
Taper Notes:
View NotesCleanly removed a very slight amount of wind noise in T7 (during the banter), 8 (just at the very end), 11 (in the intro and at the very end) -- none of this should be noticeable in the recording. The Green Vibes stage is located right next to the water, so there was a (welcome on this incredibly hot day at noon) breeze coming in from the water! There also may be some other inconsequential wind noise on this recording that I chose not to remove. w/Jason Crosby on violin for entire set Tracks 1-8 acoustic (Lo, Aaron, Bevo, Dan + Jason) Tracks 10 - 14 electric (add special guest Joe Russo on drums) This was a 12:15pm set on the 2nd/smaller stage of the festival. Taper notes: The early start to this set meant that I had to bust out of NYC pretty early -- working backwards from the 12:15pm start meant that I had to catch a Metro North train out of NYC that left the 125th st. station at 10:17, arriving at 11:27 to wait for the Vibes shuttle (or take a cab)...meaning I had to leave my apartment at 9:40, catch a crosstown bus, take that to the east side subway, then walk 2 avenues to the Metro North station. And that also meant that I had to catch all of these varied means of public transport (going up and down stairs, etc.) carrying on my person: 2 microphone stands, my rolling gear bag, a totally full backpack, and a small bag containing some food and my 50+ feet of mic cables (I could be prepared to run my ~40' mic split for the weekend). Add to that the fact that it was already over 90 degrees when I left home, it was a LOT of work to make sure I got there in time for this set. But amazingly I made it happen with about 15 minutes to spare on either end of the train -- all so I can present this recording to you. I hope you enjoy!!!
