View Notes* = w/"Leaving On a Jet Plane" tease Recorded by Geoff Tischman Transferred (5/5/2020), tracked (2/14-24/2024), mastered (2/14/2024) and posted (2/25/2024) by Scott Bernstein Taper Notes: Welcome to BARN241, my continuing excavation of my deep God Street Wine archives. After sharing my recordings of their October album release show from Irving Plaza, then the 3 NYC area Thanksgiving run shows, I return with this -- the first night of their 2 night NYE 1994 run. In a rare turn for my archival series, I'm posting a show that I wasn't at, but I got right after the show from the taper Geoff Tischman who WAS present. Right off the bat, Lo comments that they are back after 17 days off -- and the rustiness kicks in a bit -- "Dirty Little Secret" completely falls apart, but then they recover nicely by taking the song for a nice jam. Later on, Lo completely messes up the lyrics for "Driving West"...and he totally jokes about forgetting them -- but the band recovers nicely with a different kind of quiet jam. That said, this show is 100% worthy of your listening time. It's got killer sound thanks to Geoff's split mic placement in the balcony. It's got one super rare track -- "Xanax" -- an ancient instrumental of theirs which I had to "phone a friend" to help identify as I had no clue what it was. We also get another deep cut of "Ladyfingers" that they had recently resurrected. This show also features the infrequently played "Cheap Utah Blues", the always-welcome "Fortress of Solitude", and a great take on "Weird Dream". Note that in the beginning, Aaron's vocals were coming only through the stage monitors (not the PA) for first 2 minutes of "Better Than You" -- this is not a flaw in the recording or transfer -- once Duffy, the sound engineer, realized what was happening, he fixed it. "Better Than You" also has a fun vocal jam at the end. Also note that this show -- and very likely this exact recording is already on the GSW Archive page, but it has no lineage and was extracted from CDs. This posting is a fresh transfer from the master tape and will likely benefit slightly from my mastering process and the fact that there is no 48->44.1khz sample rate conversion involved. ENJOY! Taper Notes:
View NotesThis was Transferred From 3 CDs that were part of a large Shipment of GSW shows as a gift from a Wino friend. Over time i will attempt to get all of the shows she sent me up here on the archive if they aren’t already up. Unfortunately i know nothing about the recording or lineage, but it sure sounds like a good AUD recording. Great show from the band’s peak era. enjoy!! (In the text File i wrote SBD when i meant to write AUD)
