View NotesShow Notes: This was a fantastik show by the GJ crew. The first set's excellent Moist came in at a monster 29 minutes long which I believe is a record. Timmy was shining extra bright on his keys this night and Mr Rogers was truly inspired on the bass. I have long sought for Jimmy and Matt Stevens from the opening band (Javier Trejo Trio.. set also here shortly) to "Bass Off" as both of them are favorites of mine in the Minneapolis Bass scene if not broader than that. The best part is that both of them are the most humble musicians you will ever meet and particularily each one of them holds the other in the highest regard. God Johnson has oft shown a talent in living up to their time slot playing especially well on the nights when the opener has show particularily impressive talent and this was no exception. Jimmy in particular is inspired by Matt's playing and took his performance that much higher. This show featured Ryan from Fat Maw Rooney for most of the show on second/slide played guitar. The first song of the second set brought Javier back to the stage to lead the band in Zeppelin's Ramble On which was absolutely fantastik. Three excellent guitarists with Javier taking the lead on the solos.. Timmy and Scott rawkin the keys (Scott typically sings lead when GJ plays this song so he had more focus to bring to his boards this eve) Royce laying down his phatty beats.. truly bliss. This show also featured a different arrangement for the GJ boys. Typically you will find the two keys bookending the front of the stage (Timmy on the left and Scott on the right) then Jimmy next to Timmy and Flad next to Scott throwing Royce in the back on the Drum riser. This week the two keys were thrown together on the right with Scott on the outside then from right to left Jimmy -> Javier (when he sat in) -> Ryan (when he was there) -> Fladager. Aside from having a wall of Guitar love on the left side we also got our pair of keys in such close proximity that they could SO easily feed off each other. I think it contributed to a greater show than might have been otherwise. Maybe next time Royce'll be out front and we can have some others get some time on the riser.. well see :)
