View NotesShow Notes: First of all the easy: On the tracking.. Set 2 was a bit too long for 1 disc so cropping removed a little dead space in the show AND most importantly there was an extended bathroom break by Timmy and Jimmy which lead to the remaining members doing a self-titled "Freeform Jazz Odyssey" which I removed from set 2 and placed at the end of set 1 on disc 1. Second on to the sonics.. I have to say this was one of the better sounding shows I've seen at Luce only for the fact it wasn't the usual *crushingly loud. That being said I'm still not very happy with the job done. It definitely improves over the course of the show but the engineer really needs to learn how to use an EQ. Very harsh on the highs, muddy on the lows and absent in the middle. Of course this also includes a lack of ability to eliminate feedback frequencies so there are hums/whistles throughout the show and specifically the vocals (expecially Timmy's) are very hard to make out at times. My camp was right next to the board (left side) with mics up at 10 feet. This put me next to the EQ rack and I didn't see him touch it the entire show. All that being said this is still a worthy show. I'm continuing to be happy with my rig and for better or worse it captured the sound in the room accurately. Plus GJ played an excellent show to an energetic crowd and there are some really great moments on this recording I'm glad I was there to capture.
