View NotesDSO Show: 1799 • Setlist: 3/3/87 - Tuesday Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center Oakland CA Set Two: (Missing: Iko Iko Saint Of Circumstance Terrapin Station > ) I was plugged into Pugs' deck again for this show, and he had some problems with the second set tape. What a pity we lost the entire pre-drums segment, which was outstanding, but you can enjoy the rest of this hot show. Coming right after two exciting nights in SF, and playing in a tiny theater in a tiny dusty town, playing their fifteenth show in seventeen nights, the band COULD have taken it easy... no way! Instead they BLAZED their way through the third night of an awesome 1987 Kaiser run. The Dead were fresh off their break for Jerry's coma in the spring of 1987, and just back from Hawaii, and more motivated and juiced then they had seemed in years. Long shows, blazing guitars... good material for DSO to test Stu's late-80's sounds. Judge the results for yourself - he's certainly way loud in the mix... After two nights of a somewhat challenging sound mix in the Regency Ballroom, I think soundman Cotter had a blast at the State Theater. The sound was clean, crisp, and shamelessly LOUD throughout the room. Pugs' hypercards caught a somewhat thin slice of this mix, and I chose to equalize my recording to bring out a few more bass details and a little more top-end distinction. (Boosted about 5 db at 50 - 100 Hz, and again increasing above 5 kHz; the resultant wave then remixed at -7 dB with the original to produce this copy.) And we had diginoise, volume issues, etc, so this is an imperfect recording; I did my best to clean them all up, or at least hide them... Enjoy! Peter Toluzzi
