View Noteskingrue Notes: --Here’s something I’ve had for a long time. --I had the DAT tapes transferred about 10 years ago and I just got the setlist figured out, so I thought it was a good time to share it here. --This is the first time it has been torrented. --This is soundboard and it sounds excellent. Both sets are complete. --kingrue Edit: this DAT tape was labeled as soundboard, but after closer listening, I think it’s an excellent audience recording. It doesn’t seem to have the instrumentation and the vocals upfront enough to make it sound like a soundboard recording. So take it for what it is. Either way this is a great recording. =============================== vg NOTES (2024-10-08): --Super BIG Thanks to Seth Briedbart for setting up his rig & recording & Paul Beichert for patching out out of him & sharing out this Zero 1998 show & also to kingrue for the transfer & mastering of his CD copy & sharing it out to the masses to enjoy. Absolutely Appreciated!! --jazz & blues vocalist Leon Thomas (Amos Leon Thomas Jr.) was in attendance at this show & Martin Fierro dedicated his scatting & lyrics from "the creator has a master plan" within t02 ("Mr.Broadway") to him --corrected the source info for this...this came to kingrue labeled as: 'Source: SBD > DAT Clone (courtesy of Paul Beichert)', but has subsequently been discovered to be the info I corrected it to above...this info comes directly from Paul Beichert himself (see notes regarding this below) --comment on LL from Paul Beichert: "Hey Kevin - this Paul Beichert. The show you are posting is actually 5/30/98 - not 1999. It is a stage source. I was patched out of Seth Briedbart's rig at this show. He ran 'B&K 4021's on stage > HHB Portadat > SONY POC-DA12 Digital Optical DAT Cable 7-Pin > My Sony TCD-D8 > Kao Gold 60m > my master > Tascam DA-302 > your copy'. It's a good sounding show recorded from the stage. Definitely not a SBD. I have a picture of my tapes and my tape covers with all this information I can send you to include. In your defense, the text I used on my DAT covers at the time were ridiculously small to the level that at my 51 years, I can barely make it out! Thanks for getting it out there...." (vg NOTE: I will disagree with Paul on only 1 thing here...I say that the recording location for this was not 'on stage', but rather in the infamous "taper's corral" [as I called it] right next to the soundboard, which was the sweet spot in the venue...I say this for 2 reasons: 1. I always knew Seth Briedbart to set up his rig in that corral at multiple shows there [I even remember patching out of his rig in July 1999 KVHW show] & 2. If one listens to the recording, one can clearly hear that the mics are not on the stage due to the way that the crowd is picked up in front of the mics [vs behind or on the sides of them if the mics were on the stage] & the fact that the vox are clearly coming out of the PA vs being picked up from the stage monitors if they were on stage...plus, all the reverb & efx are in this recording [on the vox & saxophone, etc.] & that would not be the case coming thru the monitors - I've recorded & listened to enough stage recordings to know that the vox would not be this direct & centered in the mix if they were just coming from certain peeps' stage monitors, etc. [they would be panned toward the side of the stage of that person's monitor, & so forth] - the reason that it sounds so good & was originally mistaken for a sbd [or a sbd matrix mix with an aud mixed in] is that the great Howard Danchik's mix is so tight & on point & Seth's rig is so good & it was in the sweet spot...ya feel me?? I've also listened to enough Wetlands recordings from both the stage & the taper's corral to know the difference...this one is picking up the beautiful acoustics of the room & the PA) --comment from nickj on LL: "Paul just beat me to it -- yes this is 5/30/98. Some tracks here are mislabeled: t02 should be "Mr.Broadway", t11 should be "La Fiesta." Same show as this: https://archive.org/details/zero1998-05-30" --comment from BananaHammock on LMA: "thanks for the latter era Zero. "Favela" is "O Morro Não Tem Vez" by Jobim - "Favela" is a common alternative name and there's no reason to change it, but since you're crediting covers, FYI that it's a Jobim tune. "Junco Partner" is a Bob Shad adaptation of a classic New Orleans song, first popularized with that name and arrangement by James Waynes. --added more detail to the band members info --corrected some song titles toward how they appear on the original albums & some others to their actual titles --added more detail to the setlist info & venue info --researched & added the artists & writers info regarding all the cover tunes presented at this show --renamed the FLACs for t02 & t11 to their correct titles --created an md5 checksum file & a new ffp checksum file (to account for the naming changes of the 2 trax) --added the md5 checksums & the ffp fingerprints to the text file --added some pictures of the venue
