View NotesNOTES: ^ for John Christensen (fuzzy blue hat & blue bubble gum) # for Bob Troutman in honor of long-standing hospitality * wrong notes in honor of Dan Broder [chuckle...] QUOTABLE YONDER: Adam: "When I was in school Sunday always bummed me out, the Sunday blues... but I'm not in school so 'OO CAY-YUHZ!" Jeff: "Speaking of putz, John Daly missed one..." [LOL!] Ben: "Sometimes I feel like a bad-ass, other times I feel sensitive -- you know, just human." Jeff: "It's kinda like poking a wounded possum..." Dave: "Welcome to the jam part of the program... here we go." Jeff: "PHONE THE AUTHORITIES!!!" The Audience: "OH ME! OH MY!" THE STORY: Last year's show was in the comparatively mundane UC Ballroom, but this year it was back to the lovely old Wilma Theater, and what a bee-yoo-ti-ful venue this is: all red brocade, white ceramic cherubs, and electric candle fixtures -- a classically gorgeous theater. The place filled up nice and early, and quite a few folks were turned away once the venue had sold out at around 1,100. Needless to say, it got a bit humid in the house as soon as the band hit the stage. The sound was incredible! The PA was stacked about 12' high on the corners of the stage, and it sounded great back by the soundboard and even up in the balcony. The floor up front was PACKED. Unfortunately several people took it upon themselves to get up on stage (what IS it about drunk morons in Missoula?!) making Kevin "Hamfist" Malone have to do double-duty as monitor engineer and your friendly neighborhood bouncer. Both Jeff and Adam made impassioned pleas for people to "please stay off the stage... and don't throw shit at us." Frankly, I was a little embarrassed by the crowd but I don't think the morons had a clue. Remember, folks: THERE IS NO BODY-SURFING IN BLUEGRASS! The show felt like we'd jumped in Mr. Peabody's Wayback Machine with the controls set to 1999 or 2000, and it all had to do with song-selection. Sure, there were cool jams and raps like Years With Rose w/King Ebenezer and Ramblin In The > Mason's Children > Rambler, but the hottest stuff of the show was the old tunes, songs that felt like they hadn't been played in years. And the crowd was eating it up. Adam's picking is clear and SUPER-fast, Dave seemed to have brought his very own fan-club, Ben made a friend of mine's night by playing a requested 40 Miles From Denver, Jeff was on scat-fire, and Ben Hines was making it all sound so delciously clear that you could hear every lyric even back by the under-the-balcony soundboard. This was night five of 2005 Fall Tour and all indications say that the time in the studio and some rest from the road have these guys all charged up and rarin' to go. "OH ME, OH MY" indeed! + Pastor Tim (10.11.05) THE PITCH: Is there some valid reason you don't own all of Yonder's releases? And no, I don't mean bootlegged, stolen-from-the-band copies... - Elevation (1999) - Mountain Tracks Vol. 1 (Kinfolk Gathering Sept. 29 & 30, 2000) - Mountain Tracks Vol. 2 (Fall 2001 in CO & OR) - Town By Town (2001) - Old Hands [YMSB & Benny Galloway] (2003) - Songs From The Tin Shed [Jeff Austin & Chris Castino] (2003) - Mountain Tracks Vol. 3 (Kinfolk Gathering Sept 12 & 13, 2003) - Mountain Tracks Vol. 4 coming soon! http://www.yondermountain.com/yonder/index2.htm , then click CD's
