View NotesRECORDING NOTES: Max Ehrenberg (currently FOH engineer for Robt Walter) was on sound which is why it sounded a lot better than "Uncle Sean's House Of Feedback" which Jeff graciously refers to as "the Ritz vibe that always happens"; the club was mostly known for plug-in and crank-it electric bands. Sure, it sounds like the guys have to ask Max for a lot of onstage adjustments but remember that this was before the in-ear monitors and many in-house sound guys weren't used to mixing acoustic instruments. TRACKING NOTES: I've done the best I can on tracking of the Snow On The Pines sandwich, but I'm not absolutely sure I've correctly ID'd every tune in there. This is going into circulation as is but I'd sure accept the thoughts and input of any bluegrass professors out there who'd like to correct me. My email addy is above. THE STORY: The guys had been through Montana for the first time at the end of September 1999, and this was the beginning of that first year of touring that saw them hitting Big Sky Country on a very regular basis: Nov 1999, Feb 2000, May 2000, July 2000, & Oct 2000 -- about ever three months like clockwork. Yep, The Mallard got pretty darned familiar with Montana roads back in 2000 and we loved it. What I remember most clearly about this particular night at The Ritz (mind you, this is more than five years later) was that this was the night I first met Brian Langeliers, who got a dedication of "The Red-Haired Boy" that night and has since become both a really great friend and one of Yonder's key merch people. We're still waiting for our Montana expatriot to return to the land of his birth, but as long as he's away we figure he's in good company out on the road and down in Boulder. Brian's artwork has been featured on many tour posters & t-shirts over the years and we figure he's representin' the Big Sky Country family pretty darned well. While that doesn't tell you much about the show itself (all you have to do is listen to it), it does tell you something about the roots of this Kinfolk Family that's come together over the years. Oh, and all the references to automotive repairs are because the brakes went out on The Mallard between Bozeman and Missoula... and keep in mind that there aren't too many flat stretches when you're crossing over the mountains of the Continental Divide. God bless the good ol' Mallard -- she served 'em well!
