If you notice the date that I transferred this recording from its DAT, it was just after its 10th anniversary (though we are now approaching the 19th anniversary of this show). Yes, it's from the (somewhat dreaded) George McConnell years (after Mikey died, he was the replacement guitarist until they hired the inspired Jimmy Herring as the permanent replacement), but it's a HALLOWEEN show, and Widespread Panic's halloween shows are always super special. This show took place in Las Vegas as part of the Vegoose festival. It was PACKED and it was LOUD on the GA floor of the venue. And the crowd was VERY VERY boisterous -- with lots of people clapping, whistling, and yelling near my mics. I had to work hard to protect my mic stand in the sweet spot of the venue, and I hope the work that we put in comes through in this recording. Let's talk about this show -- lots of great one-off/debut covers (Born Under A Bad Sign, Vampire Blues, Spirit In The Dark, I Put A Spell On You, Dark End Of The Street, Nowhere To Run), great jams on classics (Love Tractor, Weight Of The World, Rebirtha, Climb To Safety, Monstrosity, Arleen, Fishwater), powerful sit-ins from members of Dirty Dozen Brass Band (on Superstition among many others), and the always-fun Coconut, which at this time was infrequently played, but ALWAYS a lock for Halloween. My remastering included a literal TON of work -- scrubbing out many hundreds of claps and EQ-ing to minimize hundreds of individual yells, woos and whistles. Now I think that you will find this presentation of my recording is up to my usual high standards. :) Enjoy this piece of history!!!
