View Notes* Meters --------------------------- Technical Notes: Now this was an experiment... I had arranged for the donation of the Sound System for this gig from my work...it got a little excessive pretty quick(4000w QSC/JBL VRX rig if you wanna know) and set-up of course took much longer than anticipated. I was assisting the sound tech setting up when I should've been setting up my recording rig...which was the greater part of my experiment really - it was a 16 track split using custom mic preamps and an Alesis HD24 Hard Disc recorder. All the tracks were recorded at 24/44.1k, from the mic, to the pre-amps, straight into the recorder. No Compressors/Limiters or EQ's on the way in. The mic's were typical stage mic's, mostly Sennheiser. The pre-amps, well the preamps are somewhat of a passion/hobby of mine - working with another fellow i've helped build a kick ass portable setup, consisting of world-class Neve, API, Siemens and Langevin preamps from the 60's and 70's that have been restored and racked with all the bells and whistles... Ok, back to it - Since we were running way later than expected(I had to peel back to the shop to grab a couple of cables, sort out various power issues and other pre-show gremlins) I let the band start before I was completely patched in - I missed a song or two at the start and spent the next couple adjusting levels and trying to figure out where I had plugged in the %^&* keyboard channel. Finally found it by song 3... So everything was going hunky-dory when the HD24 kicked out of record mode about 12 minutes in...This happened a couple times during the set(and 5 times during the next band!!! %^&$*) and I didn't catch it till the end of the night when I actually saw the message...turns out the hard drive inside couldn't keep up with the large file sizes and would freeze after 1/2 hour or so. ah technology....sigh. Ah well, it was an experiment right? So there are a few songs missing... All the files were dumped digitally into my workstation and mixed down with Vegas - only used a few plugins(mostly eq for stage noise) and some gentle compression and limiting on the master bus.
