Taping & recording great music since 1972. This is my 10th posting of a recorded event online, 1st here at archive live music Feel free to leave comments (positive or negative) so that as I dig into my vault for future postings I can make them the best possible for yinz all. I might strive to be, but never claim to be perfect! Recording equipment: Soundboard & Octava MK-012 (matched pair) ---> -10db attenuator ---> omnidirectional capsule (matched pair) ---> Pro Co DynaMike 224S cables ---> Tascam DR-680 with phantom power turned on (tracks 1 & 2) mastering as 16bit/44100Hz .wav. Recording accessories: Shure S15A mic stand (raised 13 ft.) ---> On-Stage Stands MY700 stereo mic bar (15 in. seperation) ---> Sabra-Som SM-1 mic shock mounts & Gator G-Broadcaster bag. Recording location: 10 ft. in front of right side of sbd. (the soundboard is located on far left side in the rear of the floor) ... about 80 ft. from stage Transfer: SDHC card ---> Tascam DR-680 ---> Tascam's USB cord ---> HP G60-530US Notebook Mastering: Audacity 2.0.0 (Unicode) for normalization. Then CD Wave Editor Version 1.98 for the creation of tracks. Then to FLAC MP3 Converter to create .flac files from the .wav files at compression level 8. All checksums & torrent files created as well as fix of SBEs with Trader's Little Helper 2.7.0 (Build 172) *note: FLAC MP3 Converter is the name of the software. At no time has this recording been in the .mp3 format! This performance is 1 set with no encore break. *note: This is the 5th show for my Tascam DR-680 deck & 3rd for the omnidirectional capsules, I only use thr omni caps when making a matrix recording. Businesses used that made this recording possible: Sweetwater - tripod, crossbar & cables Musician's Friend - deck & bag Front End Audio - mics & mounts Best Buy - SDHC card Lowe's Home Improvement Center - extention cord Culture Shop - ticket Katz tails: First off, let me inform yinz all that even though both bands rocked the small crowd at the Rex, In my opinion Ultraviolet stole the show ... I hope that when they travel thru the 'Burgh again that it is with them being the headliner, & not the opening act! This was my 1st night out after getting over double pneumonia & am still on some strong meds, which caused me to not be thinking correctly. I gave George 1 set of my XLR cables (thefemale ends) & took the male ends ... well for a half hour I couldn't figure out how to plug in my mics, as they need the female ends. I was getting PO'd as I haven't had this problem before. Finally I decided that I'd switch cables & plug my other set into the board ... That's when it hit me ... that the cables that were into the board didn't go to my mics ... they went into my deck. Having solved my problem I finally got everything set up a minute before Ultraviolet took the stage. My levels were too hot for the first couple of minutes as I had used my deck to record some friends that get together weekly for basement jam sessions & due to the girlfriend of their drummer being home they had their levels low, so I had to bump up my deck's levels to get in the proper range. So please bare with the 1st couple minutes of this set. So ... kick back ... n enjoy!! As this was my first time seeing them live, plus having never heard then before I'm hoping that I was correct on at least half of the titles Many thanks to George, the house sound engineer, (for allowing me to receive the soundboard feed), both Ultraviolet Hippipotamus & Dopapod not only for allowing recording, but also allowing the soundboard patch the Rex hospitality staff (for allowing me to enter early (due to a lawnmower accident if my foot gets cold I'm in severe pain), the Rex security crew (for keeping a few drunks away from my rig) & to both bands (for putting on one hell of a great show!
