Original master recording: Sony ECM-959 M/S stereo mic (in wide 120 degree setting) -> Denon DTR-80p (DAT master @ 16/48) DAT playback: Sony R-500 -> Sound Devices 722 digital input (@24/48) Mastered: Soundforge Pro 10.0c - *All file manipulation in Soundforge done at 24 bits*. Applied slight volume normalization. Sample rate conversion 48khz to 44.1khz using iZotope 64-Bit SRC set higher than "Highest Quality" setting w/anti-alias filter. Then dithered to 16 bits using using iZotope MBIT+ with Ultra noise shaping, with high dither settings. Tracked in CDWav.

This is the last DAT I have of them, and not coincidentally the last time I ever saw them play live -- which is a little bit of a bummer because I've been really enjoying hearing all of this music I haven't heard in nearly 20 years. (Eventually there will be postings from my Tiny Lights cassette masters, but that won't be for a while.) On the other hand, for some fans of my BARN archive series who are not Tiny Lights fans, there will be lots of gems coming out from other bands too! (I think I've already transferred about the next 20 BARN series shows, so keep your eyes peeled for more tasty stuff coming soon...) This show is particularly interesting because the band breaks out a small batch of brand new material -- "Would You Like To Float" (a really beautiful song!) and "Blue Sky" which wound up being released on their 1997 album "The Smaller The Grape The Sweeter The Wine", and "Custom Growl" (which I am not otherwise familiar with), plus "Lazybones" which I had heard/taped once before, the previous time I'd seen them at the Knitting Factory 10/26/94 show (this version sounds a bit Creedence Clearwater Revival-ish to me). Based on the setlist, "Would You Like To Float" and "Blue Sky" were swapped. Also, they ran out of time despite the fact that they had "Better" slotted in after "Moonwhite Day" (and oh how happy I would have been if that ROCKIN' song were actually on this recording!) and "I Don't Enjoy Life" followed by "Happy Fishes" to close the show. I'm not familiar with the song "Happy Fishes" so I have no clue what that would have been like. I do not believe that there was a cellist at this gig -- this is the only time I ever saw them perform without a cello. This was my first time at this east-village club, and I can only remember having gone there one other time for a G. Love side project ("The All Fellas Band") -- I have no clue if this place even exists anymore (though I have to doubt it). Thanks to a great sound mix in the venue, this is a really fantastic sounding recording (on even par with the excellent sounding 7/13/94 Mercury Lounge show), so enjoy!
