Applied slight volume normalization, some minor clap removal. Sample rate conversion 48khz to 44.1khz using iZotope 64-Bit SRC set higher than "Highest Quality" setting w/anti-alias filter. Then dithered to 16 bits using using iZotope MBIT+ with Ultra noise shaping, with high dither settings. Tracked in CDWav.

I know that I had been at Wetlands just a few days earlier for the God Street Wine NYE show there, so I was back again for some more music. Let's focus on the differences between this one and the 8/93 one. Well, for starters, this show sounds even better quality-wise, if you can believe it. The sound mix person somehow decided to mix Andy Demos' drums like a rock band (I'd seen Tiny Lights at least a dozen or so times by this point, and this show is still memorable to me today for this fact) -- adding big echo effects, reverb, and stuff. His drumming style was much more jazzy and typically his drums were mixed to reflect this....but I guess when you're the opening band, you don't have much say in how you are mixed in the PA. Not that it's a bad thing, just different is all. Similarly, Dave's bass is really tight and punchy in the mix....that's really good for this recording. Setlist-wise there are bunch of similarities with the previous show, still reflecting their fondness for their current "Milky Juicy" (which I still don't think was out by this point -- online sources peg the date as 3/30/94) with "Spinning", "Circle Sky", and "Lit By The Sun" (in a completely different arrangement from the previous show, where it had been a rocker, this version is broken down to just vocal, guitar, and sax) all repeated from that show, adding "Fishing Season" and "I Don't Enjoy Life" (both fun tunes!), but dropping "Ashtray". But let's focus on the uniqueness -- "Green Instead" alone what makes this show worth your time. A wonderful rendition of a classic song of theirs, including a full-on tabla-led ending from Andy Demos. Yum! The other highlight is the seemingly off-the-cuff Sly & The Family Stone medley. Pretty cool....and while every semi-funk band tackles Sly's "Thank You...", not many would have the guts to take on "Don't Call Me Nigger...." "Curley Eyed Open Stare" and "Sweet Romance" rock out appropriately, and "The Bridge" goes all over the map, as it is supposed to. Dave Dreiwitz in a rare bit of exhuberance onstage related to us that the last time he was in Wetlands in December, he was there to see Leslie West from Mountain standing on the same stage. :-) More Tiny Lights still to come. We'll see what surprises those shows have to offer us as I dig through them! Enjoy!
