Applied slight volume normalization, clap removal. Sample rate conversion 48khz to 44.1khz using iZotope 64-Bit SRC set higher than "Highest Quality" setting w/anti-alias filter. Then dithered to 16 bits using using iZotope MBIT+ with Ultra noise shaping, with high dither settings. Tracked in CDWav.

Yes, BARN106 is another classic Tiny Lights show, as I've been trying to get ALL of my TL recordings out there. But this one is particularly notable as it was billed as a reunion of sorts, bringing back Jane Scarpantoni to the fold. Jane was one of the founding members of the band (on cello!) and has gone on to far and wide international success playing with Indigo Girls, 10,000 Maniacs, Bruce Springsteen, Lou Reed, Steven Bernstein being just a few of the huge musical names she's gone on to play with. Also notable is a sit-in from the original drummer, John Mastro, who we are informed is also the person who came up with the cryptic sounding name for the band. And, this is, as far as I can tell, the longest Tiny Lights show I am aware of. At 1 hour, 47 minutes, it is almost twice as long as any other TL show I've previously posted! This was a Thanksgiving-eve show at what I consider to be Tiny Lights' home base (for me) -- The Court Tavern, where I probably saw my favorite TL shows. (More shows from this venue will eventually come out when I start to transfer my Tiny Lights live cassettes). I happened to be coming home to visit my parents for Thanksgiving anyway, so it worked out excellently for me to attend! I didn't have a mic stand with me, so I duct taped my microphone to this ledge near the stage, which worked out pretty well except for a few times towards the end of the show when the tape started to give out (it apparently doesn't stick to hot sweaty club walls that well). There were a couple of times when you can hear it slip into a slightly less than desirable position (briefly in Chesterfield Gorge, Painted Skies, Green Instead, and Blue Dot Cleanser but it's never really bad). As for the music, due to the "reunion" nature of the show, the band digs deep for their older material which was not being played as much in these days (see the other setlists from the contemporary shows I've posted around this time). In addition to playing the classic material from their 1st 2 albums, John has some spectacularly jazzy guitar playing during The Bridge, in fact the whole song covers a lot of ground from jazz to funk to blues to psychedelia -- this is a very notable version. Curly Eyed Open Stare has some extra sweet guitar work from John. Slowburn is introduced as a really old one, which I'm not familiar with otherwise -- it's got a nice tight 70's funk groove to it. Spinning is a slower, funkier version. Chesterfield Gorge ROCKS and has a beautifully slow, quiet breakdown. Red Planet has some really nice bass playing from Dave. You can hear the enjoyment the band was feeling playing in their old haunt with their original members!!! Enjoy!
