Taper Notes:
View Notes+ = w/band intros * = w/Mimi Fishman interpretive dance performance ^ = w/Time Is Free beginning/ending Dr. Dan Matrazzo - keyboards Sunny Nakazawa - drums Col Bruce Hampton - guitars Recorded, transferred (4/6/2012), tracked (12/6/2019), mastered (5/6-9/2020), and posted (5/9/2020) by Scott Bernstein Note that this recording had some issues in the first minute or so where one channel or the other dropped out, but I was able to make it nearly complete (minus one brief second or two) by turning those short sections into mono by copying the other channel -- this only occurs in the first minute or so. Also there were 3-4 momentary sections which had some brief "overloaded" samples that I used SoundForge's "Clipped Peak Restoration" to fix to the best of my ability. I also scrubbed a few loud claps, and one loud yell. Taper notes: For BARN215, I come back (yet again) to the legendary character and impresario of the jamband scene of the early 1990s -- Col. Bruce Hampton (sadly, RIP nearly one year ago today), who had the distinct honor of being the artist that inagurated my BARN series with way back in May, 2009! His performances took on many incarnations over the years -- starting with the Aquarium Rescue Unit (when I first became aware of him, thanks to HORDE tour in 1992), then the Fiji Mariners, The Code Talkers, and The Pharoah Gummit. The Fiji Mariners were the first band that Col. Bruce put together after he left the Aquarium Rescue unit. Back in BARN126, I released what was surely one of his first Fiji Mariners performances ever - a Wetlands show from 9/2/1994 -- when the band was just Col Bruce with "Dr. Dan Matrazzo" and special guest Paul McCandless. This show from about 18 months later adds an additional drummer, Sunny Nakazawa, and features a mix of ARU tunes and tunes that made it on the Fiji Mariners one album. It's worth noting that this was a one hour set opening for moe. And at this time, Mimi Fishman (yes, Jon Fishman's Mom) had fallen in love with moe. (I'd actually met her at the 1/20/96 show at Maxwell's in Hoboken) and she was travelling to see every show of theirs that she could, so she was in attendance at this Irving Plaza show. During this Fiji Mariners set, she was invited out by Col Bruce to do an interpretive dance performance during the song "Time Flack" (of course I have no memory of what the dance was like!). You can ever hear her comment after the song that "Like my son says, Col. Bruce is the wind beneath my wings!" :) Gotta love little things like that. I will continue to come back to anything Col. Bruce related that I haven't yet released whenever I can (which, at this time, I believe to be a few Code Talkers performances). He was an amazing person and performer. Hope you enjoy this show now that 24 years have passed since it was recorded... Enjoy!
