View NotesTotal Time: 42:27 I hand scrubbed approximately 24 loud yells, a whistle, and about 20 or so claps from this recording for all of our listening pleasure. This set was part of a private party multi-band celebration of Michelle's birthday that included Medeski, Ribot, and Zorn; FreeBeerAndChicken; Stephen Bernstein's Sex Mob; Vernon Reid and friends (with Oteil Burbridge, Aaron Comess, Dean Bowman, and others); and Jill Sobule. I recorded all of the sets except for Medeski/Ribot/Zorn which I wasn't allowed to record. Recorded, transferred (12/17/2011), tracked (11/22/2019), mastered (5/23/2020), and posted (5/23/2020) by Scott Bernstein Taper notes: This Dude Of Life set that I'm posting as BARN218 is one that I've been sitting on for a long time (in fact I transferred this show from the DAT it was recorded on back in late 2011) -- it's a short but very sweet set from Phish-associate (yes, he wrote lyrics for Fluffhead, Suzy Greenberg, Run Like An Antelope, Sanity, Dinner and a Movie, Slave To The Traffic Light, and Show Of Life) The Dude Of Life. He has appeared onstage with Phish on numerous occasions, and even had various Phish members in his band during a 1994 tour. Setting the story of this show: Back in March of 1999, Michelle (sorry, I don't remember her last name!) threw herself an invite-only birthday party at The Wetlands. Her party included peformances by a whole slew of great acts -- Sex Mob, Vernon Reid and Friends (Oteil Burbridge, Aaron Comess from Spin Doctors, and others), Jill Sobule, FreeBeerAndChicken, Medeski/Ribot/Zorn (THIS WAS MINDBLOWING! Sadly I was not allowed to record it -- but the recording is believed to be in the MMW archives), plus this set from The Dude Of Life and his band. I was lucky enough to be invited to this amazing night, and I was also lucky enough to be able to record most of it. I have previously transferred everything I was allowed to record from this night, and had visions of posting all sets of this show at once, but all of the sets have various amounts of work needed to be done on them. I moved this set to the front of my BARN queue thanks to the great news that The Dude Of Life is now approved for posting on Archive.org, my favorite place to post my recordings! Someone had poked me last week that he was now approved (I had no idea!) and prodded me to upload my previously posted BARN series (#61, posted 10 years ago in 2010) Dude Of Life recording from 2/5/1994, which I did. This set is completely different than the one from 1994 as he had released his 2nd album "Under The Sound Umbrella" in the interm. That got me thinking about this (completely different) performace from The Dude, and I polished it off in one day... So enjoy this otherwise previously unheard (in 21 years!!!!) private show from The Dude Of Life from Michelle's birthday party in 1999. More sets from this show to come!!! Enjoy!
