View NotesShow Notes: ROCK BOAT!!! This was another Vega Productions gig. Another school needed instruments and the crew came in to the rescue. 2 boats, 2 stages, 4 bands, 4 hours of fun. A semi-Big Wu opened for GJ and on the other boat Pert Near Sandstone opened for White Iron Band (Undie from WIB playing drums for Big Wu as well) AND Papa Mali sitting periodically as our guest skipper. Given the difficult setup I'm actually pretty happy with the sonics of my recordings on this boat (Wu and GJ) and a fun time was had by all. This was a slightly different Wu arrangement. We had Jeff Underhill playing the full time job drumming for both The Big Wu for this set then on over to the other boat to play headlining set with his own band the White Iron Band. 5 piece otherwise with both Jason and Chris swapping licks and joined later by our guest skipper: Papa Mali! Very much an old-skool Wu show. Lots of Tracking Buffalo present and some classic blues from Louis Armstrong brough in by Mali. Fun time. Sonicly there's a lot of crowd but that is to be expected. This was a very long, very short (7' ceilings) room. My recording rig was back by the board but ended up doing a damn fine job of hungrily grabbing the music over the crowd's heads. For the following GJ set, which I mixed, I actually ended up using my recording cans to be able to correctly hear the room. That worked amazingly well. Enjoy! -Nate
