It was recorded off of the radio and widely distributed (so much so that it is still available on mainstream streaming services). There is some awful distortion caused by some overdriven amp or stage monitor audible during "More Than Meets The Ear" The Bottom Line closed on 1/22/2004 Very wide stereo image with Eric’s guitar on the right and Mark’s bass on the left Taper notes: I present to you BARN271, the 2nd night of the Spin Doctors' 2 night stand from The Bottom Line to celebrate the release of their 2nd album Turn It Upside Down. The main course of this particular night was a set that was broadcast live on the radio nationwide (and was subsequently turned into a bootleg CD, sourced from someone's recording of the radio broadcast). The broadcast was preceded by a 30 minute warm-up set filled with extremely rarely-performed originals ("The Drop", "So Bad", and "What My Love") and blues covers. The main course was a full-on Spin Doctors show on its own -- a mix of their hits from the first album, most of their new album, and a few DEEP chestnuts ("Scotch and Water Blues", "At This Hour"). At the end of the 2nd set, Chris announced that the band was going to head promptly over to the nearby Tower Records to sign copies of their new album (which was being released at midnight), and would then come back to play a bonus 3rd set at 1AM. Well, there was no way I was going the miss that, given what we'd already seen in their previous 4 sets! This was the Spin Doctors at their best -- well oiled from having played 4 sets between the previous night and the 2 earlier sets on this night; and open to playing requests and deep cuts. The final set did not disappoint -- mixing more deep/rarely played cuts like "40 or 50" and "Uranium Century" with fan favorites like "Freeway of the Plains", "House" (where Chris improvised the verses every time they played the song), and "Off My Line" -- until the encore, when their buddy John Popper showed up to jam on "How Could You Want Him..." and an epic jam (with several false endings) on "Gestalt's Blues" (during which, unfortunately, Chris' vocals are mixed a bit low making the lyrics on this extreme rarity difficult to decipher). All in all, a perfect cherry on top of a delicious treat of a classic and historic 2 nights stand at The Bottom Line. I am aware that my friend David Landsberger's excellent recording has been posted here on The Internet Archive for a decade or so. Given that this was 3 years before I would buy my own microphones, I was patched out of taping legend Eliot Byron's rig which consisted of a pair of Scheops mics and an incredibly high quality Apogee pre-amp and A>D converter -- and we were set up in the same location, so this recording sounds to me to be a decent upgrade over David's AKG-C10000 recording. View NotesRecorded on the swiss FM radio "Couleur3" in 1995 (89.3 FM in Lyon) I've used my video recorder as a tape recorder straight from my FM tuner (analogic) I let all dj chattings/radio jingles cause absolutely (almost) no music was cut ... Professionally made !!! this concert was recorded on june 13, 1994 by WNEW FM in NYC and broadcasted live over 100 stations. This recording is awesome .... i would have liked to record a concert as well during my soundman years ... great job !

View Notes* With John Popper First "So Bad" since May 22nd, 1992 First "What My Love" since December 12, 1991 This was the second of 2 nights at The Bottom Line to celebrate the release of their second studio album, Turn It Upside Down. As a result, this show has many songs that were written for Turn It Upside Down. As these newer songs were never played again after Eric left the band in August of 1994, this is one of the few recordings with that material. And I must say that the sound quality of this recording is really quite nice. The second set of this show was broadcast live on 102.7 WNEW-FM in New York City (although this recording comes from my mikes and not from the radio). The radio set was pressed as a bootleg CD or so I've been told. The first set is a warm-up for the radio and consists of some really cool and rare blues tunes, including my personal favorite, So Bad. After the second set, the band went down the block to tower records to sign copies of Turn It Upside Down which came out at midnight (between set 2 and 3). After finishing the signing, the band came back to the Bottom Line to play a third set. The encores with John Popper are especially good. This is a special show and definately worth the download.
