They're extremely accomodating to tapers and truly appreciate what we do. How often do you get three shout outs from a band? I'd never taped in this hometown venue and we opted to set up in front of the left main rather than grab the only roughly center table. This place is known to get busy and rowdy. Not to mention, willsfc was running four-camera video and this spot was a good compromise for what we were doing. Soundwise, It worked pretty good. This was a version of the band I'd never seen. They had a drummer and Johnny Kulinich was playing electric guitar. I really enjoyed the show and the set list. They played some great originals and jammed on some great J.J. Cale tunes often covered by Widespread Panic. Johnny jammed out on a blistering version of Bill Withers' "Use Me." I have to clarify the lineage. My preamp battery began to die about midway through "Sweet Virginia." I tried to hot swap another battery during "Alabam," but it was dead as well. I plugged the mics into the Fostex and continued taping with that recorder, but lost most of "Alabam." Will provided a patch from one of the video sources to keep the show complete. enjoy!
