Taper notes: This is BARN13, by far the most recently-recorded of my archive restoration series, as I've been trying to focus on older, "moldy" stuff that hasn't seen the light of day in a long time. I pulled out this show of semi-recent vintage at the request of my lovely wife Jen. It was recorded in the waning days of my DAT recording era (I went to a 24 bit/hard disc based system less than two months later). This show was the first music we went to see when we got down to New Orleans for Jazzfest 2008, which was Jen's first time ever to Jazzfest, or to New Orleans for that matter. Even though I'd been to Jazzfest 3 times before and been to New Orleans a total of 5 times before this, I'd never been to historic Preservation Hall, so this brought back a lot of nice memories -- including the fact that somehow my microphone stand had been delayed on the flight and hadn't yet arrived by the start of this show, so I had to MyGuyver it and clamp my mics to Donald Harrison's mic stand and hope that nobody would care. Apparently they didn't. :-) Unfortunately the piano is a little lower in the mix than the organ, as it was MUCH quieter onstage and pretty far from my mics. Just a few days ago, Jen asked me to remind her about the Jazzfest show we went to see with Johnny Vidacovich (which turned out to be this show) and I realized we'd never listened to it once since I recorded it -- so I pulled it out to play, it sounded wonderful, and now thanks to Jen's inquiry, you all are able to listen to it as BARN13..... Enjoy a little San Diego meets New Orleans jazz/groove!
