These guys are a little bit of a throwback to NOLA marching band music -- with no electric instruments whatsoever (sousaphone replaces the bass), no drum kit (though there are 3 band members who play single marching-band style drums each), and no guitar or keys -- just brass instruments and percussion. If that sounds "boring" or traditional in anyway, you've never seen this band -- they ALWAYS bring the party! If you put this on, I challenge you to sit still while listening!!! This particular show is a bit different than I remember them being previous to this time period -- at this time they were starting to incorporate some hip-hop elements into their shows (including 50 Cent's "In Da Club") and on their album ("Hot Venom") that came out around this time. This is a band that I've had a long history with -- having seen them (and on occasion taped them) many many times -- including, notably, TWICE as part of my 30th birthday celebration in 2000 -- a free show at Central Park Summerstage in the afternoon and then another free show at a community garden in the East Village (with a stop at the delicous Benny's Burritos in the middle). Their lineup is seemingly ever-changing, and I was even denied taping once by the band. Not sure I understand why, but they did not want to be taped on that night (at Sullivan Hall one time). If you're ready to get the party started right now, this is a set for you! Enjoy!
