Entire Show Dedicated to Daniel Pearl on what would have been his 40th birthday. Daniel Pearl was the Wall Street Journal Reporter / Photographer that was taken hostage and killed in Pakistan in February of 2002. Harmony for Humanity to Take Place on Every Continent

Los Angeles, CA, September 24, 2003 - World-renowned composer and performer Sir Elton John now appears in a public service announcement on television and radio encouraging people around the world to participate in the second annual Daniel Pearl Music Day. "Join me and thousands of music lovers around the world carrying on his mission of connecting people through words and music," he says. "Participate in Daniel Pearl Music Day promoting harmony for humanity."

Daniel Pearl Music Day will be celebrated Friday, October 10 - what would have been Daniel Pearl's 40th birthday. Concerts from October 7 through October 19 may be included. All who wish to dedicate a performance with a message of tolerance, understanding and global harmony are encouraged to join this global concert. Participants are invited to fill out the registration form on the Foundation's website: www.danielpearl.org or send an e-mail to: [email protected]. There are no financial obligations. 

As of mid-September, more than 100 events and dedicated performances are confirmed and more concerts are being added every day. The second annual Daniel Pearl Music Day will be celebrated on every continent in the world - across the U.S. and in countries such as India, Australia, China, Thailand, Pakistan, Israel, South Africa, Germany, France, Spain, the U.K. and many more.

The Daniel Pearl Music Day Honorary Committee includes such notables as Salman Ahmad, Yefim Bronfman, Ida Haendel, Herbie Hancock, Sir Elton John, Yo-Yo Ma, Zubin Mehta, Mark O'Connor, Itzhak Perlman, Prof. A.J. Racy, Simon Shaheen, Ravi Shankar, Barbra Streisand and John Williams.

Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, kidnapped and murdered in Pakistan in February 2002 while researching a story, was also a violinist, fiddler and mandolin player. He joined a band, orchestra or chamber group in every town in which he lived and formed connections through his passion for music and friendship. Shortly after his death, Daniel's family, friends and supporters formed the Daniel Pearl Foundation to further the ideals that inspired his life and work, and to spotlight his love of music to build bridges and create friendships.
