Phil did not seem 100% tonight. So, for one thing, Phil had to sit down to play for the encore & then after that he had to be helped to take his bass off. Listen to his vocal at the begining of "Dark Star" his voice was not much above a whisper. Then, at the end, he made a point of telling the audience that his friend Peter Shapiro was there on stage watching tonight. --There was/is no official announcement, but we were left wondering if perhaps we were seeing the last Phil & friends show. epluribusunum comment: --I took video during "Deep Elem Blues" the entire thing from a great vantage point using a very good camera telescoping lens a Leica C-Lux. I have hesitated to upload since Jennifer Hartwick is so I feel overdoing it. Based on this comment I will though...look for my yt channel painterphilippe. It seems Phil's picking hand is straining to pick out & pattern the strings on his Modulus. He also for sure needed a tech to sling his bass over his shoulder at the beginning of the show. Note I thought he did "ok", but I left as they transitioned into "Let It Grow", none of the other band member were doing it for me, the whole dynamic bandwidth of the sax, two guitars, and keys was extremely redundant and I wasn't enamored of Grahame's vocals or really playing non plus. You can really see Phil on my video the whole time yes he seemed a little unsteady especially compared to the show in Portland last year. Will that have been the last PHF show? Dunno, but his legacy as a bass player can never be trammeled with history's greatest the end. Love to you tonight Phillip Chapman Lesh. From a fellow Frater Philippe vg NOTES (9/28/2023): --Thanks so much to Mike Buzzeo for recording & sharing this Phil Lesh & Friends 2023 show.
