The poles were there to support tarps over the Lighting Board if it rained (which it didn't for P & F). Though there was some chatter in this VIP section, perhaps more so than the OTS at times, this was like being in the 10th row versus the 30th row, where the OTS started (and red rocks is all deep & tall rows) and hence the sound of the recording has to be among the best AUDs made.
