Sector 9, Ulu, Conehead Buddah, Blindman's Sun, and the Living Daylights all played the previous night. Oteil Burbridge and/or Butch trucks sat in with most of the bands. Taper notes: BARN86 comes along right on the heels of BARN85 which was The Moon Boot Lover set from this same night (appropriate since they were recorded together on the same 3 hour DAT tape). I LOVED Percy Hill and saw them lots and lots of times over the years; and I've already posted 2 ancient Percy Hill from 1996. I've got quite a number of shows from throughout their run that I've recorded, and this is a pretty nice (if short) one. Playing just before the headliner Disco Biscuits on this night, this was fully Percy Hill V2.0 with the new members and all new material from their masterpiece "Color In Bloom" album. There were lots of bands on the bill, and Percy was not the headliner on this night, so it was a compact set, but it kicks off with 4 "Color In Bloom" tunes which are excellently played and fresh sounding. Then Butch Trucks (on a 2nd drum kit!) and Oteil Burbridge join in for a spectacular jam on the Allman Brothers' "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed" which (after recovering from a near collapse from a tempo problem early in the song) picks up steam and gives and gives and gives. If you're any sort of Allmans fan, this is a must-hear! Also of note -- this recording is 100% clean and was NOT afflicted by "The Curse Of Percy" which Bill Mulvey and I experienced often at Wetlands. The Curse somehow managed to cause us to have some minor problem or other in most of the Percy shows that we recorded at Wetlands. DAT is a somewhat fragile medium, and while the vast majority of my recordings are problem free, our Percy Hill Wetlands recordings often seemed to have some issue or other. Look for more music from this jambands.com weekend PLUS lots more Percy Hill from all periods of their career to come out as future BARN releases. Enjoy!
