An outdoor stage with a huge dub sound system http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn2/rockthing/Nohshintoh/nst2008-08-03a530/nst2008-08-03a530-resize/IMG_3547-640x480313kb.jpg set up to 'house' left. Great location, within sight of the ocean. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn2/rockthing/Nohshintoh/nst2008-08-03a530/nst2008-08-03a530-resize/IMG_3559-640x480309kb.jpg The PA was run from a small desk at stage left. The engineer was pretty busy going between the crowd and the console. Using a semi-home-made ~90cm omni bar for the first time at a concert. The height is a bit low, but still above the heads of most everyone at the show... barely. - 2009-09-11 edit - Originally I had written, "As usual, Sakai-san's bass overpowers the recording a little." but after getting the band's feedback and re-listening it's pretty clear that the balance is there thanks to the Roots Vibes Soundsystem, despite the bass distorting in the recording. - 2009-09-11 edit end - The drum machine during 'Jump' also gets morphed into a more industrial sound than usual, but everything around is clear. This, despite the metres running at -20db the whole time. No pads or filters were used. 10.1db of amplification was added with Audacity in post. No clipping occurred. Nohshintoh were supposed to be on a brief hiatus, purportedly to work on new material, but the organisers of the event assumed they'd be playing and put Nohshintoh's name on the posters. Suddenly, with about a week's notice, they had a gig. Mostly they were there to celebrate their friends' wedding and go to the beach. Having seen them a lot, I'd say they were a little off this day, but it was a fun show. The circumstances were certainly working against them. - 2009-09-11 edit - no, actually, they were pretty hot, in many respects, on this occasion. There is one false start which may have coloured my initial apraisal - 2009-09-11 edit end -
