View Notes1) Santana tease prior to starting song. Jeff asked me after the show how it compared with last year's Sweetwater acoustic. I replied that both shows were great but there was no basis for comparison, as the vibe was totally different. Last year it was a quiet, seated, toe tappin and head noddin crowd-with the illusion that the boys were playing a private party in your living room. This year the front tables were taken out, creating a sizeable dance floor, and it was a standing, hard dancin', very chatty and, in a few cases, way too drunk gathering. The band fed off the energy-it wasn't a laid back jamming show like last year. It was a very good show-prob my fav of the recent run of 3 in the Bay Area. In general I'd have to say the band is jamming more than the were a few mos. ago. White Sky Rain is my current fav, and this one is the best I've heard. Lotus Dreams, another personal fav, wasn't as good as last year's but better than at Earthdance, and always a treat. Can't wait for Feb 4 at Fillmore! Bob Robert Cogswell's notes on his recording Notes on New Monsoon from The Sweetwater Saloon, Mill Valley CA, 12-2-05. Recording gear used: Stage Mic: Crown SASS P Mk 2 stereo condenser PZM (pressure zone microphone). Other Mics: 4 Crwon CM-700 mics were used, 1 on each frontline stage monitor. Mixer: Shure FP-42 Recording device: Sound Devices 744T hard disc recorder. The stage mic was connected to the 744T via the power XLR inputs. The CM-700 mics were powered by the FP-42, mixed and panned into 2 channels fed into the 744T via the line inputs. The recording resolution was 24/48. The files recorded were trensferred to an external hard drive and mastered as follows: The Broadcast PCM wavs were mixed down in Audacity to a 2-track 24-bit wav in stereo, and the 2-track wavs were mastered in Samplitude 7.2 (normalization, tracking, fading, dithering and downsampling).
