These weekly residency shows are always unpredictable, and this Tuesday’s show was no exception. Battling a cold and sore throat, Paul Bolger nevertheless sucked it up and delivered - the show must go on! Perhaps to conserve his vocal chords, the band played more covers than usual (Blotto’s originals require a lot of vocal dexterity), and we were treated to a great collage of Garcia, Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers Band, Crosby Stills & Nash, Elton John, and B.B. King tunes. The highlight for me was the encore. Joined by their friend Wes on electric sitar (yes, really) they launched into a 20 minute version of "The End” by The Doors. It’s on nights like these I’m thankful I brought my recording gear; I’ve listened to this track several times already. Simply epic! Thanks to Doug Blesius for an excellent board mix.
