SBD + Aud Matrix
Lineage:
Scheops CMC54 + SBD -> Mackie 1202 -> Denon DTR-80p; Transfer: Sony R500->Sound Devices 722; Mastering in Soundforge Audio Studio 9.0c - volume normalization and 48->44.1 sample rate conversion with interpolation accuracy 4, anti-alias filter. All file manipulation in Soundforge done at 24 bits, then dithered back to 16 bits using highpass triangular dither algorithm with high pass contour noise shaping. Tracked in CDWav.

I had seen them twice before in '94 (once opening for The Dude Of Life w/Phish as his backing band at Wetlands and again opening for the post-Col. Bruce Hampton Aquarium Rescue Unit at Irving Plaza) and didn't think very much of them. I felt like they were just a generic jamband with Zappa-ish leanings. I was friendly with Brendan O'Neill who was moe's front-of-house sound mixer at the time and he had been bugging me for a while (since the "Timmy Rock Opera" show in February) to give them another chance. And when he offered to guest list me and hook me up with gear to make a really superior SBD+Aud matrix at the show it was hard to pass up. So I gave them another chance and they knocked my socks off. Between the covers, all of the crazy teases, their really jammin' originals, the really really up-front bassist and the dreadlocked-drummer who was literally driving the band from the back seat, this show started it all for me nearly 150 shows ago! I'm not sure why, but this show seems to have been missed by the moe.dank project, so I'm really happy to finally put it out here, 14+ years after the fact on archive.org for everyone to hear..... Note the mix is extremely bass-heavy for the first 30 seconds of Rebubula or so. This was a problem with the house mix that Brendan got corrected relatively quickly. This is BARN3 -- my 3rd installment of the "Bernstein Archive Restoration" project of transferring my DATs to .wav files. The previous installments in the series have been Col Bruce Hampton And The Code Talkers 9/17/05, and Col Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit w/Warren Haynes 11/20/93. Coming Soon -- Dan Bern @ The Bottom Line 7/31 & 8/1/98, moe. 10/31/96, and moe 1/20/96.
