Taper Notes:
View NotesThe stage was set up for vocalists and that is quite unusual for a Mermen show. Two sets of drums way back there and in front of them was the guitar cabinets on the left side and bass on the right. A PA system was in front of that equipment and there was even an area for St. Joe to move around. In front of all this was the dance floor. To capture the PA speakers and avoid the dance floor a mic stand was set up about 15 feet from the PA. Both mic's on a single mounting plate about 6 inches apart and about 10 feet high leaning over everyone's heads. Not my preferred set up but that would never have survived the crowd and this did although with less separation than normal. First recording with the Tascam HD-P2. Analyzers showed a 60 Hz power source leakage tone with 2 harmonics at 120 & 180 Hz. Source may have been the PA system as the recorder is battery powered. This hum was attenuated with iZotope RX4's spectral repair tool. Another wonderful New Year's Eve. This was the 19th annual New Year's celebration with the Mermen. For this year our host extraordinaire Jim Thomas brought together a variety of bay area musicians. The core band of Jim, Jennifer and Martyn are all members in various combinations tonight. Musicians listed in each set are to the best of my memory or were announced. Many pardons if I omitted your contributions. The night was dedicated to Shigemi Komiyama or Shig33. A longtime collaborator with Jim and the Mermen his passing in 2014 was a heavy loss. Some of his original material is presented by the different bands tonight in tribute to Shig. His picture was hung on the wall and his spirit shined over the entire night. Tonights poster was created by Denise Halbe and was used for the jewel box artwork. A second poster was generated by Jennifer Burnes and is also included. Another thank you to Tim Foley for the up close photos used on the insert. Rock his liver! VISIT THE MERMEN AT... WWW.MERMEN.NET The song "theme from Endless Summer" is dedicated to Ian Fraser Kilmister, known as Lemmy. He was an English musician, singer and songwriter and founded and fronted the rock band Motörhead. His music was one of the foundations of the heavy metal genre.
