View Notes***CM Archive Vol 20*** Seeder's notes: This show has gotten a lot of mileage. Bostrom has posted the entire show on his blog, but in MP3 format… A ways back, I posted here billydee’s amazing (source 2) audience recording…that recording is missing the final encore of “Maiden’s Milk”… Here though, for the first time I know of, is the complete Source 1 SBD in lossless format…. For we Meat Puppets fans, the 1987 to Spring 1988 recordings are really special. By the time the fall of 1988, they had abandoned most of these tunes to focus on their new sound and songs from ‘MONSTERS’. Curt added some more crunch to his guitar, and the some of the more nuanced country aspects of the band were put aside. Some older fans claim this era marks a downward turn, but in my eyes it marks the band in their prime, as far as their playing is concerned.’ Huevos’ and ‘Mirage’ were certainly more polished releases, and one could cite issues with the record production, but it would be hard to say the songs were any less potent, and live, they are downright baffling…as this show arguably demonstrates perhaps better than any other from the era. .. While the master would make this DEFINITIVE, this is the best quality and lowest gen Soundboard source to enter circulation…and we are all the better for it!... Enjoy, but please…: Keep It lossless…Bostrom’s definitive master is still up online in MP3 format, anyways Don’t Sell It! notsaved Background: I was lucky enough to develop a pretty solid virtual friendship with CM, and seemingly was able to succeed where many others have not: getting him to open up his vast collection of recorded material to digitally transfer. The many requests he received over the years were impossible to fulfill, and he honestly felt badly about ‘hoarding’, but there was little way to oblige all of them over the decades of taping, trading, and collecting Perhaps he saw in me the chance to get his tapes transferred for himself, and also out to the many folks who had requested them since his last trading days many moons ago... What we have in his’ collection is a brilliant snapshot of the Portland \ Eugene \ Corvallis, Oregon scene in the early to mid-1980’s. Then, after a prolific spell taping his favorite bands in and around Portland, he scored a job working for Touch’n’Go sister label Blast First Records out of the UK. He became label support for Band of Susans, and worked closely with many of the stalwarts during the heyday of that label. He has also worked closely with many other bands, in various capacities; including Wire and Nick Cave (at Mute Records); the Buzzcocks, after their reformation in 1989; as well as many, many others…far too many to mention. This series does not even begin to scratch the surface of his collection; much of which is privately recorded and cannot be released to the public without the bands’ permissions. Still, what has been offered up is a pretty amazing collection of recordings, and certainly will bring to light a wealth of new material as well as many upgrades which have remained elusive for a long time. Allow me to give a big thanks to CM for his trust in me, and for opening up his vaults to we fans! notsaved
